Are there toll roads in Iceland? Yes. There are currently two roads in Iceland where drivers are required to pay a toll: Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel, near Akureyri in North Iceland. The toll can be paid online at www.tunnel.is. The new Ring Road through Hornafjörður, near Höfn in Southeast Iceland. The toll can be paid online at www.spolur.is.
Starting January 1, 2026, a kilometer fee shall be paid for all vehicles, regardless of their energy source. The fee is determined by the vehicle's weight. The fee is 6.95 ISK per kilometer for passenger cars and SUVs up to 3.5 tons.
We have plenty of cars most of the time but when rental cars are not in use we take license plates off to save money so sometimes it happens that people book cars with short notice on holidays and we cannot get license plates until after the weekend so please book in time or be ready to wait few days. If we do not have the car you want we do email and let you know if we can offer you a car with different transmission, different car type, taking the car later or to cancel.
